Choosing an offline publishing tool for this blog wasn’t as simple as I had assumed. The choices seem adequate enough upon first glance, however there are a few personal requirements that substantially reduced those choices.
The offline publishing tool for KeelingDesign.com must…
- work with Drupal
- offer Category selection
- be Mac OSX compatible
With the requirements above, my options were essentially reduced to 3 contenders:
- MarsEdit
- Ecto (Mac)
- Qumana
I must admit that I never really tested Ecto, because I never made it past the clunky setup wizard which in my experience wasn’t very user friendly. Next up was MarsEdit.
MarsEdit initially excited me, because it features a nice slick Mac application UI. The only problem was, I couldn't configure categories so that they actually worked properly. That was a real disappointment.
Then finally I gave Qumana a try. It's slower and less slick than MarsEdit but it offers better options and usability. To that end, I managed to get my categories configured properly!
So that’s ultimately how I came to choose Qumana as the offline publishing tool for KeelingDesign.com
